Caterpillar wins order for the entire propulsion system for 2 tugs

Recently, Harley Marine Services of the United States selected Caterpillar to provide a complete propulsion system solution for two new 60-ton towing port tugboats. The order includes four Cat 3516C propulsion main engines (1920kW@1600rpm) and four Cat MTA524 full-rotation propulsion. (blade diameter 2400mm).
Harley's two new port towboats are currently being built at the Diversified Marine Incorporated shipyard in Portland, Oregon.
It is reported that "Many ships of the Harley fleet use Cat engine power. After the new two tugs are delivered, it also means that Cat's port trailer special propulsion system solution will become a member of the Harley fleet, Caterpillar marine propellers. Sales manager EmilCerdier said, "The complete propulsion system provided by Cat can provide customers with more simplified design, installation and after-sales services. Most importantly, as an end user, Harley will only need to contact Cat Global Agents. Can provide support services for their overall propulsion system. ”
It is understood that the MTA 524 is based on the original MTA 5 series full-turn propeller design, specially developed for the operation characteristics of the port tugboat. The MTA 524's design maximizes bollard drag performance, lowers installation and maintenance costs, and improves steering performance compared to the standard MTA 5 Series. Harley's ordering thrusters feature custom-made range propellers and shaft-to-shaft (PTO) powered steering and lubrication systems.
In addition to the Cat propulsion system solution, Cat Financial also provided full-ship financing services during the construction and operation of the two tugs. The Cat propulsion system will be delivered in mid-2016 and is scheduled to be delivered in early 2017.

Tungsten Alloy For Oil Logging

Tungsten alloy is an ideal material for oil logging due to its high density, excellent corrosion resistance, and good mechanical properties. Oil logging is a process of measuring the porosity, permeability, and fluid content of rocks in the subsurface to evaluate the potential for oil and gas production.

Tungsten alloy is used in oil logging tools such as gamma ray detectors, density logging tools, and neutron porosity tools. These tools are used to measure the characteristics of the subsurface rock formations and determine the presence of oil and gas reserves.

The high density of tungsten alloy enables the tools to penetrate deep into the earth's crust and accurately measure the properties of the rock formations. Additionally, tungsten alloy is highly resistant to corrosion, which is critical in harsh environments such as oil fields.

Furthermore, tungsten alloy has excellent mechanical properties, including high strength and toughness, which make it suitable for use in downhole tools that are subjected to high pressure and temperature.

In summary, tungsten alloy is an ideal material for oil logging due to its high density, excellent corrosion resistance, and good mechanical properties. Its use in oil logging tools enables accurate measurement of subsurface rock formations and identification of potential oil and gas reserves.
