After 7 days of meticulous testing and comparison, staff of the Tianguan Group laboratory concluded that the “Shenzhou No. 9” migratory bird in the space has achieved beneficial mutations, and its tolerability, stability, and enzyme activity have been further enhanced. It is reported that Tianguan Group will select the best quality microbial strains for cultivation and promotion, in order to further improve the economic and social benefits of cellulosic ethanol.

From June 16 to June 29, the "Shenzhou Nine" flew in space for 13 days, including the first manned space rendezvous and docking and other scientific research missions, including the space crown mutation experiment for microbial species. On July 1st, the opening ceremony of the Shenzhou 9 return capsule was held in Beijing and the handing over of items was carried out at the opening site. Tianguan Group completed the inspection of microbial strains in the next 7 days.

According to Zhang Xiaoyang, the chairman of Tianguan Group, there are four types of microbial strains sent into space by Tianguan Group, which are cellulase, woody enzyme and two kinds of yeasts. The purpose is to use space mutation breeding methods in order to obtain favorable variation of microorganisms closely related to the production of cellulosic ethanol in a short period of time, increase the conversion rate of cellulosic ethanol, reduce the production cost, and achieve efficient development.

After these microbial strains "go home," Tianguan Group's experimenters immediately tested and compared them. The staff pointed to six small-thin-tube test tubes filled with powdered solids, saying that this is a microbiological species that travels in space, not to mention that they are small in size but contain 1 billion microbial cells. Under strong radiation, microgravity, and high vacuum conditions in space, genes of microbial strains have undergone favorable mutations, and tolerance, stability, and enzyme activity have significantly increased.

In the 1990s, Tianguan Group led the advanced military in the field of bio-energy. At present, the group's annual output of 10,000 tons of cellulosic ethanol demonstration projects has passed the national acceptance. However, with the acceleration of the pace of industrialization of cellulosic ethanol, it is necessary to continuously improve the beneficial characteristics of microorganisms in the production of cellulosic ethanol and minimize the cost of tons of ethanol.
