Renault considers government support for producing electric vehicles in China

According to foreign media reports, Renault plans to produce electric vehicles in China. Renault hopes to meet the different preferences of Chinese consumers by producing more models to enhance its performance in the Chinese market.

Renault’s CEO Carlos Tavares recently stated that Renault has obtained approval from the Chinese government for its cooperation plan with Chinese manufacturers. The Chinese government agreed that Renault will cooperate with China Dongfeng Motor Corporation to set up a joint venture company and produce and sell Renault models. It is reported that the start-up capital of the joint venture established by Renault and Dongfeng Motor is RMB 7.2 billion, and the initial annual output of the Renault-Dongfeng joint venture plant is 150,000. Renault's joint venture plant with Dongfeng will produce Renault's various cars, SUVs, commercial vehicles and electric vehicles.

Tavares said that the Chinese government strongly supports Renault’s investment plan in China and encourages Renault to produce electric vehicles in China. Renault is the world's largest car manufacturer selling electric vehicles. Renault currently sells four electric vehicles. They are Fluence, Kangoo, Twizy and Zoe. Renault has not yet decided on the type of electric car produced in China. Last year, Renault sold 29,724 vehicles in China, a 22% increase from 2011.
